Lost in translation

After a number of lovely days in Australia, Alex and I were debating what to do with our last day in Sydney. We sometimes approach our vacations like massive to do lists. I'm not complaining, but Alex and I do a fantastic job of covering the major sites in any city very quickly. And then? Well then we leave ourselves some time to do something a little off the beaten path.

Or on the beaten path, as the case may be. Alex and I had heard nice things about Manly, and so we decided to visit. Another brief ferry ride away from Sydney, Manly is a lovely seaside town and the start of the Manly-to-Spit walk. At least that is what people told us.

Here's the start of the walkway.

See? They even walk and bike on the funny side of the path!

Only here's the problem: this walkway does not so much lead to a walk as it does to a hike. Apparently what we think of as a walk (and what Alex and I were dressed to do) is called a stroll in Sydney. A walk is really more of a hike. Got it? Walks are strolls and hikes are walks and who knows what they call hikes. I don't want to know. I mean, we got from down here by the beach...

...to all the way up here with this gorgeous view!

And about 10km later, we did it: the Manly to Spit Bridge "Walk." I'm adding some more pics for your viewing pleasure. We really did have fun, but we were a little more tired and a little more sweaty than we planned.

Alex and his lizard friend (almost not visible due to my choice of wide aperture).
Lizards were everywhere!
